The Grand Appeal

The festive gales herald the joyous Christmas season, and should you wish to pick up some ethicalgifts for the small and large kids in the family, you could head to the Grand Appeal shop.

Profits go to improving Children's hospitals in London and Bristol, although if you do get a figurine, a small 25p royalty goes to each artist.  I only say this because people might wonder how that whole thing works.  Here's some links to Jarsberry Ram and Gromberry stuff.

Gromberry Jam (Ever tried a Gromberry?  Tastes rather like a strawberry).

Jarsberry Ram Jam (Actually very similar to raspberry).

Letterpress & Screenprint Workshop

How good would it be to learn letterpress and screen print in a single weekend.  Yes - really good, so since The Letterpress Collective is just downstairs from me, and we both teach our respective print processes, we have decided to team up, and are running a weekend workshop introducing people to the joys of both processes.  The class costs £140, and it's happening on the 7th and 8th November.

Here's Nick Hand of the Letterpress Collective.

Prints at Southmead Hospital

Southmead Hospital benefits from a arts programme of events and exhibitions run by Fresh Arts. The enormous Atrium space has several concurrent exhibitions running at any time.  I have some work hanging in the Sanctuary Gallery, and this is also where the grand piano (recently acquired by Fresh Arts) resides.  As we hung the show, two pianists played a selection of standards.  And patients came to quietly sit and enjoy the music.  Good medicine.

Brighton Art Fair

Here is a reason to go to Brighton for the day, or even the weekend.  It's not too cold yet to go for a swim...

The Balmoral

Here's a new screen print of the Balmoral. Bristol people will be familiar with the Balmoral as it's normally at rest in the docks, the largest boat in the harbour.  This along with some other new prints will be on show at the Affordable Art Fair this weekend on the Rostra Gallery stand.

The Bristol Affordable Art Fair has an Artist in Residence

It's Lucie Sheridan, my studio partner!  Just that is worth the price of admission.    She'll be drawing on walls, among other things, and it starts this Friday.

The Big Sheep Roundup

The Shaun in The City exhibition is on now for a couple of weeks.  Very thoughtfully, the farmers in charge of the show have put Jarsberry Ram alongside Shaun on the Cob, Painted by Katie Wallis (My wife that is).

Goodbye to the sheep

The Shaun in the City trail in Bristol ends today, so that's it for now.  They all return to base for grooming and manicuring, and then the whole lot will be on show together at Cribbs Causeway from 12th - 20th September.  The auction is on 8th October.

Shaun in the City Bristol trail begins today.

Here's Jarsberry Ram (on the left).  I found he likes skateboarding.
He is now in position down at the Pumphouse on the harbourside for the next few weeks.

Screen print gift vouchers

I found people seem to like buying screenprint courses as gifts, so I now have some nice handprinted gift vouchers that anyone can buy for one of my monthly screen print workshops, taught from my studio in Bristol.   More information here.

Painting a sheep

I'm getting ready to work on a Shaun the Sheep, for Shaun in the City.   The beast is being delivered tomorrow.   Before I paint there is a bit of sculpting to be done for the design, which having no experience I am very glad to have some assistance with from Dave Weaver of John Wright Modelmaking.  It's all very top secret.  I think l can say that much though...
